Zufriedenheit

I know it’s not fair to judge a country on seeing one very small part of it but, that’s what I have to go on. So, just saying that to date I’m not impressed with Poland. Or at least, the north west area that I’ve seen.

We drove back into Germany last weekend and the 30km of road was completely abysmal. Something like the road near the station in Ruffec if not slightly worse. Then we got pulled over at the border by the police. I thought I’d show them my French ID/Sejour card to avoid being on the Shengen records but they’d didn’t like that and asked for a passport. When presented with a UK passport they got very suspicious. Anyway, after some discussion between themselves they said everything was fine and then proceeded to admire my bitch. So, it was OK in the end.

I really need my solar controller working so I can use my extra panels when the sun is out. Stopping at campsites, even just for a weekend day or two will just deplete the coffers too quickly.

So , realising I could deliver an Amazon order to a DHL point in Gorlitz, I decided to hang local until it arrives. Park4Night gave me a parking spot at the top of the hill near a large monastery which was OK but had lots of passing traffic and just didn’t seem right. On walking Vaea the next morning I spotted a car park that looked like it was quiet at the back so we relocated there. Much more peaceful, and with a vegetable plot nearby with workers that smiled and waved in the morning as they arrived and again when they left in the afternoon. All local organic stuff that they sell at local markets. They told me I was OK parked here and it’s a great spot. Shops a short bike ride away, lovely and clean with nice views and about as safe as you can get.

Here’s Vaea not the least bit interested in concrete sheep.

And, a montage of photos of things we’ve walked past over the last few days.

They have nice gardens here

It’s all been spoilt I’m afraid as a chap came by and asked if I was OK to park here. I told him I’d asked and that it was. Then he asked the cost and I told him there was no charge. So, ten minutes later he returned with his motorhome and parked by my back door. Damn! I asked if we could swap places so I wasn’t looking out at him and his wife snoring in their camping chairs but he wasn’t willing to do so. Looks like I’ll have to play loud music tonight and see if I can persuade them to go somewhere else. This is our spot!
