Uncle Martin Visits

I say “Uncle” as that’s how the kids and I refer to him. He’s my bro!

For those that don’t know, Martin is a year younger than me and loves Wurzel Gummidge and Tasmanian Devil. He lives in Croydon and works at The Wilderness. He is autistic, to the extent he requires 24/7/365 support.

He has come to visit in France, at a guess about once a year, for some time. I get to see him in England occasionally but he has a very full social life thanks to Mencap and Jules.

As him staying in Lorenzo with me completely off-grid wasn’t even worth considering I decided to have him fly into Alicante and rent an AirBnB for a long weekend. I took an extra day off work and hired a car. The itinerary was something like this for me.

• Cycle 50Km into Almeria and pick up a rental car
• Drive 300km to Alicante to pick up Martin from the airport
• Spend 4 days and 4 nights with Martin and Vaea in Alicante
• Drop Martin at the airport and drive 300km back to Instincion
• Drop the hire car at Almeria and cycle back to the property.

Quite an ordeal but despite sketchy planning everything went well.

We spend the weekend in and around Alicante. On the Sunday it was the Alicante Marathon so we couldn’t really use the car. We ate out a few times, visited the castle, the marina and the shops. One evening we had a nice Thai meal and a few times, breakfast in a cafe on the sea front.

Gulls!

We saw many gulls when we were there. Unfortunately, not a single seagull which leads me to conclude they don’t exist.

Let me know if you want me to post about something in particular. I know I’ve promised a post all about Lorenzo for Robin and I think a post about my bikes might interest some. I will post about plans in details but as things stand I’ll definitely be leaving Spain (thanks Shitgen) as I’ll be restricted to France the the UK for the next three months.
