Yeah…..in Spain at last!
So, it’s been a slow process. I’ve been working up to being “off grid” over a few months. First, sleeping and eating in the vehicle. Then, being away from the town where I’ve spent the last twenty years. Then being toilet independent! 💩 Now, we’re in Spain and we have running water but nothing else.
I know I should take more photos in case you’re interested. Here’s a few taken on the 4 day drive down to Spain.

- Day 1 Sat – 320km
- Day 2 Sun – 380km
- Day 3 Mon – 600km
- Day 4 Tue – 100km
We arrived at the property, which is 4 ish Km up a dirt track with only just enough room to squeeze through and much parting of vegetation in the process. Vaea didn’t like the squealing and banging of tree branches as we forged on through. Good news, no solar panels removed!
Tuesday : First order of the day on arrival at about 11am was to reroute, repair and rejoin water pipes to access the irrigation supply to the property. It’s not potable but should suffice for the dogs, showering and could be filtered for drinking at a push.
Then a thorough clean of Adrian’s gas powered fridge and a service to make it operational. Necessary for both meds and food. That all done, as well as unloading of a vehicle, we ran the tracks again and joined the main road into Almeria where we shopped.
First, a generator. Then food and water, 160 litres for drinking at a cost of €18. Lastly, gas and petrol. Back to the property for a sandwich, beer and a couple of night caps.

Wednesday : The generator topped up my battery last night which meant I was able to hit the tech job this morning without anxiety about power levels and at lunchtime, I connected up the four 200W panels. This was squirting in 500W when the sun was out but is dwindling to under 100W at the close of business today.
