We arrived at a parking spot just outside town next to a lake. It seemed OK but, as I’ve found with nice lakeside spots over the past few weeks, they tend to attract fishermen and undesirables. The first night, a couple were fornicating under a willow tree about 4 metres from the back door.
Judging by the sign on some of the trees, this is part of the Camino route to Spain. Again, lovely woodland and tracks. The shops are little rough and ready. I’ll have a better idea when I head to a larger town in a few days.
Early morning wake up call.
I moved from the lakeside after a couple of days as we were rudely awoken at five in the morning. Someone knocked on the door and when I answered a bloke gestured for a cigarette. I suspect this is the standard tactic to see who’s inside. After a couple more minutes I heard stones hitting the side of the vehicle and could see out of the window a woman and two men hanging around looking menacing. I quickly grabbed my survival knife and got dressed. Then went outside with Vaea and held her on a tight lead. They scarpered but hung around at a distance for a while. So, we approached them and they retired further. As I have taught Vaea to bark on command that helped chivvy things along.
So, I really need to install cameras, get myself a baseball bat and at some point add a pass through from the living quarters into the cab. Always good to be able to drive off without going outside in an emergency.
We’re parked up a few kilometres the other side of town now as I need to stay local. I have a parcel arriving at a nearby locker with my bike gearbox. I found a good spot using Google Maps but even on a side road by the forest, there are a constant stream of visitors. Runners, dog walkers, berry pickers, drone flyers (though I had a chat with him) and walkers.

Here’s a video from a few days ago. I always fancied filming a combine working. This seems to be a grass collector but pretty similar. There seem to be a lot of fields of grass here and not so many crops. Makes for pleasant countryside.
The intention is to head back towards France soon. I was hoping to traverse Poland and visit some other countries but I have a medical repair that I think needs sorting sooner rather than later. So…into Germany next week though I think I’ll try and visit the Netherlands and Belgium on the way.
I have to say that I am looking forward to French camping car aires though. Should make life a little easier.
