Nottinghamshire!

The last day of driving through France was fraught with icy and snow covered roads. All in all, very stressful but completed without incident. We avoided the toll roads as my vehicle would be charged as commercial. Two junctions on the A63 a few days ago cost Adrian in his camper €4.50 and I was charged €19.50. Ouch! Also, Adrians camper is over 30 years old so we had to avoid the emission zones around the towns and cities on our route. Waze wouldn’t route us so I had to switch to Tom Tom which managed to do this.

Our ferry docked on the morning of the 5th and we drove up the A26, M25, M1, A46 and then through Gunthorpe and arrived at the farm where Adrian has his workshop. I’ll be here for a few days hopefully, and will get some work done. Both day work and some work on the vehicle at the weekend I hope.

The local countryside is pleasant. The contrast with both France and Spain notable. Fences, locked gates and warning signs a bit of an annoyance. The multitude of tracks and trails through the forest a blessing.

Vaea’s lead behaviour has fallen behind after two and a half months of running free but that has to change now. We’re surrounded by busy roads and fields with horses and sheep. No deer to chase that we’ve seen but plenty of pheasants hidden in the bracken and grey squirrels darting around.

England seems so compact after the continent. Things are so cramped together. My god….the state of the roads though! I love how they can’t repair the potholes but have managed to erect speed cameras all over the place. Luckily, not encountered any cretinous drivers yet so pleased about that.

I’ve ordered an air fryer from Amazon after Adrian preparing some nice food with much speed and ease. A small 2 litre model for under £30 which I hope will suffice. Hopefully that’ll arrive at a local Amazon collection point that I can walk to tomorrow.
