I have these occasional feelings. I don’t mean the usual emotions such as fear, uncertainty, happiness and so on. More of a mixture of those that combine for a unique “state” I suppose.
As an example. I used to come to France with my mother and her second husband when I was in my late teens, I think. They had a property near Angouleme and I’d bring my mountain bike and take off for the day or borrow the car and go exploring.

Looking back on those holidays brings back a “feeling” that was very specific to the situation. The environment, the weather, the surroundings, smells, sun and the situation, all combined, was unique.
The strange thing is that over the last twenty years living in France, I would occasionally have this all come flooding back. Albeit for just a few seconds while walking the dog or standing looking over the landscape or town.
Right now, I get another state of mind that will take some getting used to. Since leaving the family home when I was 18, I’ve always had somewhere to live. Be that rented or owned. Now, the very fact I’m a nomad with almost everything that I own either in storage with some friends or surrounding me in the back of a vehicle is weird.
To some extent, it puts things into perspective. It’s making me realise how fleeting possessions are. Also, you’d think being a nomad would limit social interaction but after a few months I’ve met more people in more new situations than I would have otherwise. I’m hoping to catch up with some I’ve not seen for years over the coming months and after that….who knows.
